About Me
I have loved working with colours since I can remember, however it wasn’t until I was 15 years old that I discovered I had only had around 15% vision. Up until that point I knew no different and had assumed everyone saw life through a filtered lens like I did.
When my vision was corrected, the world was magnified with colour, contrast and sharpness I hadn’t seen before. I was able to appreciate everything from an entirely new perspective. This ignited my passion for art and an inspiration to capture energy, light and movement within my work. I pushed aside working in just pencil and black and white, for bright and colourful oil paints.
What I didn’t know was that the inability to see clearly was also a gift that gave me the opportunity to develop strong observational skills. Skills that allowed me to observe and understand body language in a different way to others, which I had perfected because I couldn’t always see facial expressions.
Growing up in the country, I was always around horses and farm animals and have an affinity to the Australian landscape and a passion to engage with people and their stories. My favourite thing is to help others turn their memories or experiences into unique pieces of artwork to help tell their story.
My Studio Assistant Oakley
I have a beautiful space to paint in with large windows and an abundance of natural light. Everyone seems to gravitate to the warmth of the studio and I often have the company of Oakley by my side.
